What is a Canadian immigrant visa?

A Canadian immigrant visa (also known as a right of permanent residence visa) allows you to live and work anywhere in Canada.

Do I qualify for Canadian immigration?

To find out, fill in our assessment form and we will be happy to give you a free individual consultation. There are three main categories of Canadian immigration:

1) Skilled Worker Class: In this class, you will be assessed on various factors such as your age, education, work experience, ability in English and French and adaptability criteria. You should have at least one year of work experience.

2) Business Class: In this class, you will be assessed on your previous management experience and your net worth (min. Cdn$300,000 - $800,000).

3) Family Class: In this class, you will be assessed on the existence of a relative in Canada who is a Canadian landed immigrant or citizen and who is eligible to sponsor you. The sponsor will generally have to show sufficient income to support you.

I have no status in my current country of residence. Can I still qualify?

Yes. However, your application may have to be filed in your home country and you may have to travel there to attend an interview.

The application can include your spouse and dependent children (children who are under 22 and do not have a spouse or who are over 22 and are still full-time students).

How long will it take to process the application?

It can take anywhere from six months to two years or more depending on where the application is filed and whether or not an interview is required.

Where will the application be filed?

All applications must be submitted in the applicant's home country (country of nationality, or country of habitual residence), or where the applicant has been admitted lawfully for at least one year.

Will I be required to attend an interview?

It will depend on the category in which you are applying, the strength of your application, and the visa officer’s discretion. About 30% of Skilled Worker Class applicants receive interview waivers. However, all Business Class applicants are required to attend an interview. As a general rule, applicants who submit their application to an office other than the one serving their country of habitual residence are required to attend an interview.

Where will the interview be held?

The interview will generally be held in the country in which your application is filed.

Will I have to stay in Canada?

To become Canadian citizens, adults must have lived in Canada for atleast three years(1,095 days) in the past four years before applying. Children under the age of 18 do not need to meet this requirement.

You may be able to count time you spent in Canada before you became a permanent resindent if the time falls within the four year period.

Use the citizenship calculator to find you if you have lived in Canada long enough to apply for citizenship..

Will I need a visa to travel/work in the U.S.?

As of March 17, 2003, Canadian landed immigrants from most countries will need a visitor visa to travel to the U.S.
You will need proper work authorization to work there. You will also need to be careful to maintain your permanent residency by accumulating at least 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada in every five-year period.

Can I sponsor other family members?

If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child) or other eligible relative (such as a parent or grandparent) to become a permanent resident.

When you arrive in Canada as a permanent resident, you must make every reasonable effort to provide for your own essential needs and those of your family.

If you sponsor a relative to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you are responsible for supporting your relative financially when he or she arrives. As a sponsor, you must make sure your spouse or relative does not need to seek financial assistance from the government.

The process to sponsor your family begins when you, as a citizen or permanent resident in Canada, apply to be a sponsor.

There are two different processes for sponsoring your family. One process is used for sponsoring your spouse, conjugal or common-law partner and/or dependent children. Another process is used to sponsor other eligible relatives.
